What are Tape Extensions?
Tape extensions
Tape extensions are the newest method to hit the market. They consist of a slim panel of hair, on a 1.5-inch tape. A fine piece of hair is sandwiched between two pieces of weft; they lie flat creating an unnoticeable bond. These are custom placed around the head to suit the client and achieve the desired look, whether that is thickness, length or both.
Pros:
- Great for fine hair, they are easily covered and can be custom placed.
- The hair is completely reusable, they can be retaped and reapplied, and can last between 6-8 weeks each time.
- No heat or tools required for application.
- One of the fasted methods of extensions out there.
- They are practically undetectable.
- The weight of the panel is very light and is spread out over a larger area of hair, which makes this a very safe method causing no damage to the hair when looked after properly.
- You can tie your hair up and they are undetectable.
Cons:
- Like with any hair extensions they need regular maintenance and upkeep.
- Once applied you won’t be able to get them wet for 24-48hours. This includes excessive sweating and washing your hair, as you need to allow the bond to adhere to the hair.
- You won’t be able to use conditioner near the roots, nor will you be able to use any silicone or oil based product near the adhesive, as they will cause the panel to slip.
Maintenance:
You can style your hair as normal; you will just have to be a little more careful. You may have to braid your hair each night before bed to avoid your locks getting matted in the night. You will need to section your hair to endure you thoroughly detangle it from root to tip, being careful at the panels. Avoid any silicone or oil-based products at the root of the hair.
