The Difference Between Colour Techniques
Balayage
Balayage, a.k.a “to sweep” originated in the early 70’s from the Carita Salon in Paris. It became huge due to its beautiful and effortless sun kissed look, which is softly hand painted on the surface of the hair, leaving you with natural looking swipes of colour. You can go months without retouching, as it gives hair that free flowing, natural looking, beautifully blended multi dimensional look, which is easier on the wallet, which makes it a great alternative to uniform foiled highlights that creates a regrowth line.
While the Balayage look seems simple to achieve, it requires a well-trained eye to understand and create this look. A hair goal may take a lot more than one session and many hours to achieve the desired look, especially those that want to go lighter and have multiple tones of blonde.
Ombre / Sombre
A dark root blended into lighter ends became popular a few years ago, which started off with the popular full on dip dye ends, followed by the more subtle faded ombre called sombre. With sombre, the sections start a bit higher with ribbons of dark and light highlights melting into lighter ends, making it a more gradual transition. This is a very economical option, as it is very low maintenance, it doesn’t give you a regrowth or a harsh demarcation line that requires touch up every 6-8 weeks.
Baby lights
Baby lights are a different degree of highlighting compared to the regular foiling and balayage services that are sharper, sometimes chunkier strands. Baby lights are ultra fine strand weaves, giving you a natural, more blended multidimensional colour that creates that youthful sun kissed look. This is a time consuming process that can be costly due to micro foiling tiny sections of hair, but so worth it.
